Anna asks that we give thanks for the good-sized group of preteens and teens at the Saturday Bible study. They listened well. Please continue to pray for their salvation.

Note: Brother Goodson has a weekly Bible study for children and young people. This has grown to the extent that it has been split into two separate groups.

Give thanks with us for some progress towards resolving our long-standing vehicle troubles.

We were recently given a gift an Isuzu Double Cab Pick-up truck, almost identical to the one which has been in the repair shop for over three years. The gifted vehicle is 20 years old but had been laid up for the last 5 years. Rodents had done a lot of damage to the electrical wiring, but it was otherwise very well maintained. We give thanks that Joel has been able to repair this damage. He’s also given the clutch and brakes an overhaul and reports that the car is working well. This has involved yet further spending on vehicle maintenance, but we are very hopeful that we will have a good, working vehicle.

Please continue to pray for Anna as she continues her recovery after her break-in and assault earlier this month.

Stephen & Gail spent several days with Anna over the past couple of weeks, including two nights at Cape Maclear on Lake Malawi. They were able to discuss various short and medium-term options. We give thanks for the kindness of lovely believers who allowed us to stay at their resort completely free of charge.

Please pray:

  1. For Anna’s personal safety (and the rest of the team of course). It is particularly important that she does not have any further trauma during this period of her recovery
  2. That Anna will be able to thoroughly de-stress after the severe trauma of the robbery and assault.
  3. That she will be preserved from depression and ongoing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  4. That she will have relief from the nausea and extreme fatigue she is experiencing. Some of which may be due to the prophylactic medication she must take.
  5. For the follow-up medical tests to be taken at the end of the month
  6. That she will be able to discern how and when to begin to return to the work she misses so much
  7. That the SALT team and Christians around Anna will know how best to give the care and support she needs.

We are thankful that the Land Cruiser has proved fairly reliable for Stephen & Gail’s trip, with only some relatively minor electrical problems to deal with. After successive mechanical problems with the car, this is a real blessing, especially as they have travelled almost 2000Km already on this trip.

On Friday morning it passed a major milestone when the odometer clocked half a million (hard!!) kilometers.

There is much to give thanks for following Anna’s recent ordeal, but still much to pray about. Please particularly remember the following matters:

  1. That Anna will continue to know the peace of the Lord as she processes the emotions & memories of what happened, and what could have happened.
  2. For preservation of Anna, and the rest of the team, from similar incidents.
  3. Continue to pray for the recovery or replacement of the stolen goods
  4. Please remember Anna’s family – this is a difficult time for them as they deal with their own emotions and natural instincts to care for her.
  5. For those around Anna to be able to give the support – and space – that she will need.
  6. That the Lord will overrule so that this will somehow be to the furtherance of the Gospel, not to its detriment.

Unbelievable. But true. 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of our first experience of life and work for the Lord in Malawi.

From Heaven to our hearts

We were young and inexperienced, but Gail and I were both feeling the unmistakeable weight of a burden from the Lord. Not particularly for Malawi, at first, but each of us had a very definite sense that the Lord was calling us to dedicate ourselves more fully to him. For many months it seemed that every passage we read, every message we heard, was a voice from heaven straight to our hearts. (How I long for days like those again!)
