Update From Dzaleka

A couple of months back the authorities in Malawi gave the green light for schools to resume after several months of Coronavirus lockdown.

Although the pupils and staff at COOM academy welcomed this news, the extra conditions concerning social distancing necessary because of Covid-19 presented an impossible burden for them.

Thanks to the generosity of the Lord’s people, SALT was able to offer help.

Construction of two new classrooms

Over the past few months we were able to supply funds to complete two new classroom blocks, and to provide 100 desks to ease congestion in class. Prior to this, around 400 children had been sharing only 50 desks.

Feeding Program Continues

Among the children at COOM academy there are around 100 orphaned children. These vulnerable young people are cared for in foster families, most of whom are in extreme difficulty themselves, and it is our privilege to help provide each child with a nutritious meal every day.

The program has carried on throughout the months of Coronavirus restrictions. William and his staff received a discouraging setback recently when thieves broke into the school and stole the plastic chairs they use when feeding the children, and for other gatherings, but at least the youngsters continue to be fed.
