Bro Harold is planning to travel to Lilongwe and on to Kasungu shortly to try to sort out a problem in our literature storage container there. It has an infestation of chiswe (white ants).

The container has subsided due to heavy rains, enabling the chiswe to enter. It needs to be raised and repositioned on concrete pillars to keep it off the ground. White ants are very destructive and could quickly destroy our literature stocks.

Kasungu is approximately 1000Km round-trip. Soaring costs of fuel mean that Harold is keen to accomplish as much as possible on this trip. He asks that we pray for travelling mercies and that he will not only be able to sort out the white ant problem, but that he will be able to make the trip profitable in other ways.

Please pray for Bro Harold’s health. He has had a recurrence of the back pain he suffers from time to time. In conversation with Stephen, it transpires that Harold has been carrying rocks from a nearby mountain to build a security wall around the new house he is constructing.

Wati reminds us that many of the builders and other workers at Saidi regularly attend Goodson’s weekly adult bible study. This is really encouraging to see.

Most are unsaved, so please pray for their salvation, and for the growth of those who do know the Lord.

Wati reminds us to please continue to pray for the women who recent completed the skills training at Dzaleka.

Our aim was to equip them to earn an honest living to help lift them from the poverty trap which often leads to prostitution and other vice. Pray for wisdom as we go forward – to know how best to help further as they try to establish small businesses. Especially pray that the the investment in their physical needs will lead to even further opportunities to bring the Gospel to them and their families.

Although we recently had to make adjustments to our schedule for the Saidi Development Project, we are still encouraged by the progress made so far.

We are grateful for Brother Goodson’s diligence as he has supervised the work, and for the energy and skill of the building team who have done so much with limited resources, but much hard work and African improvisation.

Please remember Anna’s mom, Heidi Vallance, who will be travelling to Malawi this week. It’s a very long journey and she will appreciate our prayers for safe and trouble-free travel.

It’s almost exactly one month since the robbery and assault. As well as remembering Heidi as she travels, please continue to pray:

  1. For Anna’s physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing as she continues her recovery. She will have follow up medical consultations and tests later this week.
  2. For safety as Anna and Wati will be travelling south today (Monday). Anna will stay with a Christian family in their home in Blantyre.
  3. That the Lord will bless Heidi’s visit
    • That the time with her mom will be helpful for Anna and
    • That being with Anna will give Heidi and their wider family peace of mind knowing that she is in good company as she recovers.

It was lovely to have Gail’s company in Malawi for a couple of weeks

I love Malawi. I’ll take every opportunity to visit Malawi. But I hope I never have to visit again in the circumstances that made this present trip necessary.

As regular readers know, sister Anna recently suffered a very traumatic burglary and assault at her home. The trustees agreed unanimously that Gail and I should travel to Malawi at the earliest opportunity to support her through this crisis. We also felt it appropriate to review and improve the security of our people and property in Malawi in light of what had happened.
