Dzaleka Refugee Camp Update

Earlier this month we had the opportunity to pay a brief visit to see the ongoing work at Dzaleka.

Jim & I were so grateful that the ongoing unrest in Malawi abated enough to enable us to make a brief visit to see the work of COOM which we have been privileged to support a little during the past few months.

The volunteers there provide a basic education to around 400 children from various African nations, the greater part of them refugees who have fled conflict and other hardships in their home nations.

We had an impromptu Bible Lesson during a visit to one of the classes – the children were learning about responsibilities towards vulnerable people, which provided a great opportunity to explain how we are all vulnerable because of sin.

We were impressed with the efforts of the management and staff of the school to give the best education they could with very limited resources.

The children were polite and responsive and were clearly making the most of the opportunity afforded them.

The desks were pushed to the perimeter of the room as the roof was leaking so much water

Around 100 orphaned children receive daily meals, and we have been humbled to be able to facilitate this in a small way.

It costs around £1 (US$1.30) per day to provide each orphan child with three meals a day.
