Please continue to pray for the progress and arrival of the shipment of Gospel Calendars sent recently. This is now expected to land in Beira (Mozambique) on 13 December. Arrival in Malawi is likely to take at least a further 4 weeks.

We have been considering printing part of the expected shortfall of calendars in Malawi, but prices have more than doubled since we last printed there. We expect considerable outlay for printing Nthawi ya Baibulo in the New Year, Lord willing, so please pray that we will have wisdom in the prioritisation decisions we have to make.

Anna requests: Please continue to pray for salvation, specifically for people’s eyes to be opened to the truth of the gospel of grace.

Note: Malawi is a “Christian” country, however for many their understanding of the Gospel is seriously flawed. It is not unusual to hear professions of faith, only to discover on further enquiry that the person is depending upon their own works. As the work grows, it is important that we pray it will have a firm foundation – that those who profess will have been genuinely been saved by grace.

Anna says, “Give thanks that the last document for the A-Series was sent to the designer this week!”

She adds, “Please pray for timely design of the Bibletime curriculum. The designer is swamped, but it would be nice to be able to start in the new year. The need for this kind of material is becoming increasingly evident at our weekly kids’ Bible class.”

As the Christmas holiday approaches, please pray for the team as they make preparation for the various outreach activities.

We will again be supporting the Christmas camp at Dzaleka, when hundreds of refugee children who study the Swahili Bible Time lessons, will gather for several days of teaching and Bible-based activities.

In Lilongwe, we will also support the special Christmas Day event at the feeding centre where hundreds of street kids and vulnerable elderly people come for a meal and to hear the Gospel.

Brother Harold recently mentioned several contacts who are interested in Baptism: “I talked to two sisters whose testimonies are clear and Goodson has talked to three or four brothers whose testimonies are clear too.”

As you give thanks for this, please pray that the brothers will have wisdom as they go forward. Harold continued, “Goodson has some difficulties in going forward because of the responsibility he has so he wants to make sure that these who come have pure motives.”

Please continue to pray for the shipment of 2023 Gospel calendars and hygiene packs which was sent from Belfast during September.

Due to breakdown problems at the printer they were only able to complete half of the planned print run of 1,000,000 calendars. Please pray for the timely arrival of the container and for guidance as we consider whether to print all/part of the remaining 500,000 calendars using a commercial printer in Malawi.

Please continue to remember Janet McMaster’s health. Janet has recently had a second cancer surgery and expects to begin further treatment in the coming weeks.

Janet has been responsible for overseeing SALT’s finances and we miss her input. Please also remember Gail as she tries to handle the increased bookkeeping / finance responsibilities as a result of Janet’s illness.

Anna says, Please pray for the health and strength of the team. Both Harold and Goodson have been under the weather during the past week.

Note: Malawi is currently experiencing yet another Cholera outbreak. According to Reuters, it has claimed over 110 lives since March, with thousands of others infected, making it one of the worst outbreaks in recent years. Millions of people in Malawi have no flush toilets and many still do not even have access to a latrine. During wet season these poor hygiene standards leave such people very vulnerable to disease. Wet season is also the time when Malaria proliferates, due to increased numbers of mosquitoes which carry the parasite.

Please remember the ongoing Fuel shortage in Malawi. This has been a persistent problem for 4 months now. Over the past week or two supplies of diesel have been intermittently available, but there has been little or no petrol at all.

Apart from further limiting the country’s already struggling economy, this frustrates the work daily. Every journey has to be carefully evaluated and much time is wasted searching / queueing for fuel.

Please remember Anna as she will be returning to Malawi on Wednesday, after a few weeks’ break in the UK and USA.

Please pray for safe, trouble-free travel, and that she will recover quickly from the long and tiring journey. Pray too that she will settle back quickly to the work in Malawi, and know the Lord’s presence and guidance in the weeks and months ahead.
