Anna writes: Praise report! The police arrested the drivers of the truck [which had entered her property a couple of weeks back] today and brought them to Thondwe so we could meet with them.

And…it turns out their story [they claimed to be investigating poor cell network coverage in the area] is actually true! So they have been cleared and we are feeling relieved.

Note: We are truly thankful for this outcome. Although the threat was not as initially expected, the “jungle drums” will no doubt carry the message that you can’t get in and out of the area without being monitored – and that is a really good thing.

Please continue to pray for the safety and security of the team in the difficult months ahead – the economic situation is still dire and crime continues to be a serious threat.

Anna writes: It has been a joy to be with Harold and his family and the other family. They are now able to sleep through the night and their appetites have returned. Please pray for continued healing.

Note: Harold & his family (together with the other family who had been sheltering with them since they were made homeless by Cyclone Freddy) moved in with Anna temporarily while they de-stress following a traumatic robbery at their home a couple of weeks back. This is also giving time for repairs to be completed, and for additional security measures to be installed.

On 21 September it was exactly 5 years since SALT was formed.

We look back with profound gratitude to the Lord for all that He has done in the interim, and how the work continues to flourish in spite of many challenges.

We particularly give thanks for the Children’s work and Literature Outreach, each of which continue to thrive, under the hand of God. We are grateful too for the assembly planted at Saidi, and for how it continues to grow.

We praise the Lord for His faithfulness and help during the first week of MGO 2023.

Although much smaller than most previous years, the team still managed to distribute several thousands of Seed Sower texts, and many people listened to the Gospel preached in the open air meetings.

As in former years, the prison visit on Wednesday, and the Children’s Day on Saturday were outstanding highlights.

We arrived at M* prison to the news that they had several suspected Cholera cases. A team from Headquarters was on site to assess the situation and to advise on preventative measures, so our gift of a hygiene pack for each man was particularly timely, and exceedingly welcome. Almost the entire prison complement returned from their work in the fields to listen to the Gospel being preached.

On Saturday, around 300 children were present to listen to the Gospel presentation and to enjoy the activities and games laid on for them. It is humbling to think how little it takes to brighten the lives of these most impoverished children. Pray for them.

We thank the Lord that the last of our small team arrived safely in Malawi from USA this afternoon. We are grateful for the sacrifice each one has made to be here.

We plan a slow start on Monday morning, with the main program getting underway with a Gospel meeting at Saidi on Monday afternoon.

Brother Goodson asks that we pray for an additional 10 women and 4 men who have requested Baptism, bringing the total number to 17.

Starting on Wednesday, Goodson plans to start special Bible studies for these individuals to make certain they understand the message of the Gospel and the meaning of Baptism.

Pray for wisdom and discernment as Goodson speaks to each to hear their testimony of salvation.

Brother Goodson asks that we pray for three men who have requested Baptism. Each bore testimony to discovering since starting to attend the Gospel meetings at Saidi that salvation is not by good works but through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

While we give thanks for this, Goodson asks that we pray that he will have wisdom and discernment and that the reality of their profession will become apparent.

According to Brother Harold there were “tears of thanksgiving to the Lord” on Lord’s Day for what he has done at Saidi.

Six believers were baptised, with many people coming to witness the event. The Gospel was preached, and together with the newly-baptized believers they all sat down to break bread as an assembly for the first time.

This is the fruit of years of labour in the area. As you give thanks for all that the Lord has done, please also pray that those who have obeyed the Lord in baptism will be richly blessed in their souls, and that the new assembly will be preserved and prosper in the days ahead.

Anna asks that we give thanks that the Bible studies we held in May have borne fruit, and that a number of people have requested to be baptised. This is not only a testament to the Lord’s goodness, but also to the labours of Brother Goodson who has faithfully preached the Gospel and taught the Word of God in the area of Saidi / Thondwe for several years.

Please also pray that those who will be baptised next Lord’s Day will continue to grow in grace, and that we will soon have the joy of seeing an assembly planted in the area. Please also pray that the baptisms will speak to the many others who regularly listen to the Gospel at Saidi, but have not yet responded.

Anna writes, “It’s encouraging to see a small group consistently coming to Bible study and asking good questions. Please pray for discernment to know where they are spiritually and teach accordingly.”
