In response to logistical limitations during Bible teaching conferences, SALT proposes the construction of two 40-bed dormitories on its ministry campus in Saidi, Thondwe. These facilities will replace costly, substandard off-site accommodation and enable enhanced evening sessions and increased participation.
When not in use for conference accommodation, the dormitories will also be available for emergency accommodation for families affected by severe weather events such as Cyclones Idai, Ana and Freddy.
Architect’s Concept
The proposed accommodation comprises two separate 10-bedroom blocks, each sharing a single toilet / shower block with both male / female facilities . Each bedroom will have two sets of bunkbeds, so sleeping 4 people. There is adequate floor space to lay a further mattress on the floor, to increase the capacity to 5 people, if necessary.
Both accommodation wings share a central common area which provides space for Bible study and socialising.
The concept images below somewhat flatter local building standards in Malawi!
Phased Construction
It is planned to construct in 3 phases, as project funds are available:
- Phase 1 – Commencing July 2025 (DV)
- Construction of Dormitory 1
- Installation of 30KW Solar Electric system
- Installation of Solar Water Pump & Storage system
- Contruction of Toilet / Shower block
- Phase 2 – Commencing as funds available
- Construction of Dormitory 2
- Phase 3 – Commencing as funds available
- Construction of Common Room
As the Lord enables, a second block will be built to increase capacity to 160 people in total.
Additional Information
The proposed dormitories will not only facilitate more attendees at our conferences but will also enable us to increase the frequency of these important gatherings.
In addition to benefiting evangelists and students, the construction of these dormitories will contribute to the local economy by employing local tradesmen, thereby offering much-needed employment opportunities. This not only strengthens community ties but also fosters sustainable development within the region.
