Pray: Presidential Elections – Tuesday

Pray

Please pray earnestly for the Presidential elections to take place on Tuesday.

Pray specifically for peaceful conditions before, during and after the election. Also pray that the election will bring real easing of the serious hardships which have gripped the country during the last few years.

Malawi’s economy has been described as “in freefall” – inflation averaged over 30% in 2024, and there are constant shortages of basic commodities and fuel. A once peaceful country has become prone to violent protest and organised crime.

Although there is widespread dissatisfaction with the incumbent, Lazarus Chakwera, the main contender for the opposition is 85 year old former president, Peter Mutharika, whose own presidency was less than stellar.

There have been instances of violent attacks by opposing political factions, and the police have been accused of complicity in some instances.

The team in Malawi will be lying low for the incoming week.
