We give thanks for the printing of around 3,000 Emmaus Lesson and Test Booklets in Malawi.

We are especially grateful to Tom and Debbie Turnbull, who volunteered two weeks of their time to assist with the printing work. Their practical support has made a significant difference to the Emmaus ministry.

Please join us in thanking God for:

  • The successful printing of around 3,000 Lesson and Test Booklets.
  • The opportunity to print materials in-house, which can reduce costs by up to 50% and help make the best use of limited resources.
  • Gail’s help with collating booklets after completing Emmaus lesson grading.
  • The ability to scale up the Emmaus work despite operating on a tight budget.
  • The safe return home of Tom and Debbie, even after their flight from Blantyre was cancelled because of bad weather.
  • Tom and Debbie’s willingness to continue helping with this work several times each year.

We also thank God for the progress made and pray for wisdom as we address a few ongoing challenges:

  • Finding suitable binding solutions for larger booklets of more than 100 pages.
  • Strengthening backup power arrangements during the wet season, as cloudy weather reduced solar electricity generation toward the end of the printing period.
  • Additional volunteers who may be able to assist with future printing work.

May these printed booklets continue to help many people engage with God’s Word through the Emmaus ministry.

We thank God for a profitable Bible conference week and for His provision throughout the gathering.

  • Around 50 visitors stayed in the hostel accommodation, which was sufficiently complete to meet the needs of those attending from further afield.
  • In addition, believers from the surrounding area and within daily travelling distance increased attendance to approximately 110–120 people during the week.
  • Give thanks that God helped Mark and Stephen as they taught from 1 and 2 Thessalonians. We are grateful for the clear teaching of His Word and for the encouragement it brought.
  • We also thank God for the local sisters who worked tirelessly under Anna’s supervision to prepare and serve three meals each day.
  • Give thanks for Harold’s diligent translation work and for Goodson’s efforts in helping everything run smoothly throughout the conference.
  • It was especially encouraging to see evidence of spiritual growth in those who have attended these teaching weeks year after year.
  • We believe the Lord will use the teaching shared during the week to produce a rich spiritual harvest in the lives of many attendees.
  • Please continue to thank God for His provision as work progresses on the hostel, and pray that the remaining construction can be completed in the coming months.
  • We are encouraged by the possibility of holding two conferences each year. Furthermore, the additional accommodation should enable smaller groups to gather more regularly for Bible teaching and fellowship.

We give thanks to the Lord for a fruitful and encouraging time of gospel ministry in Malawi.

  • We all enjoyed safe, although tiring, travel. Participants came from three continents, with the longest journey being from Adelaide, Australia.
  • Strong team relationships developed throughout the programme, creating a spirit of unity and mutual encouragement.
  • Many participants described the outreach as a genuinely life-changing experience. We we look to the Lord for lasting impact on their lives.
  • Anna’s generous hospitality helped make the programme a great blessing to everyone involved.
  • Gospel literature reached numerous villages, while open-air preaching in three trading centres provided further opportunities to share the message of salvation.
  • Many people came to the gospel meetings at Saidi. The messages shared by the visiting brothers was greatly appreciated. Some took the opportunity to speak publicly for the first time.
  • Three days of children’s outreach attracted around 250 to 270 children. They listened attentively to gospel-centred lessons based on events from the life of David. We limited attendance to those who come to the regular children’s work – so please pray that this will incentivise others to attend regularly.
  • Despite adverse weather causing one planned visit to be cancelled, two prison visits took place. Between 800 and 1,000 men listened attentively as the gospel was preached.

May the Lord continue to bless all who heard His Word and bring lasting spiritual fruit from these opportunities.

We give thanks to the Lord for His help and blessing during a very encouraging first week of MGO.

Please join us in thanking God for:

  • Safe travel for all participants. Everyone arrived without incident, and all luggage, including essential supplies for the children’s activities, reached its destination safely.
  • Excellent team spirit. The team has settled well and is working together in unity and fellowship.
  • Open-air outreach and literature distribution. Two busy markets have been visited for gospel preaching, with Seed Sower texts and invitations distributed widely. Thousands of people have heard or received the Gospel message.
  • Gospel meetings. Afternoon meetings throughout the week have been well attended, with returning regulars and some new visitors, likely as a result of the invitations distributed. The Lord has given much help in both preaching and translation, and it has been especially encouraging to see all the brethren taking part.
  • The Children’s Day Camp. Around 250 children attended. The messages, centred on the life of David, were well received, and there were many opportunities to engage with the children through crafts and games. The positive impact of these activities on children who have very little cannot be overstated.

Prayer Requests

While giving thanks, please also continue to pray:

  • For children who were unable to attend the camp because village initiation camps were taking place at the same time. Pray that Malawian children will be preserved from the harmful influences associated with many traditional rites and ceremonies.
  • For the visiting team members as they enjoy a brief period of rest at Liwonde National Park. Pray that they will be refreshed and encouraged as they enjoy the beauty and wonder of God’s creation.
  • For the Lord’s continued blessing on the outreach in the coming days through:
    • Prison visits in Mulanje and Zomba
    • Market open-air preaching
    • Literature distribution
  • For safe travel as the team begins the return journey on Saturday, God willing.

May the Lord continue to work in hearts and bless the faithful sowing of His Word.

We give thanks to the Lord for a very profitable trip to Malawi for Stephen and Gail, especially as this was Gail’s first visit in several years. Although she had concerns about her language skills, the Lord graciously helped her find many practical ways to support Anna. Gail was able to sit in on several Children’s and Youth activities, giving her the opportunity to begin hearing and speaking a little Chichewa again.

Please pray that the Lord will clearly guide how Stephen and Gail can best serve the work in the coming months, as they anticipate being able to spend more time on the ground in Malawi.

We also give thanks for the enjoyable times shared with the assembly at Saidi, and for the help given to Stephen as he preached each Lord’s Day, as well as to the young people at Njuli Community Day Secondary School.

Today brings a further opportunity to visit D* Prison. Please pray for help to make the Gospel clear as the Word is shared there.

We give thanks to God for the safe travel of Anna, Gail, Goodson, and Stephen to Johannesburg, South Africa last week. The trip proved to be extremely fruitful and timely as the team worked to support the ongoing Malawi hostel construction project.

One of the primary goals of the visit was to scope and secure procurement opportunities for key items required to complete the hostels. In Malawi, many essential construction materials—particularly plumbing and electrical products, doors, and hardware—are often very expensive and frequently below acceptable quality standards.

By sourcing these items in South Africa, the team was able to identify more durable, higher-quality products at a significantly more affordable cost, ensuring better long-term value and sustainability for the project.

In addition to construction materials, the ladies put their excellent bargain‑hunting skills to good use by sourcing bedding materials sufficient for 80 people, a critical requirement as we prepare to make the hostels fully habitable.

As we press ahead toward our goal of having the hostels ready in time for the May conference, we ask that you continue to pray:

  • For wisdom and provision as procurement decisions are finalised
  • For smooth logistics and transport of materials
  • That the hostels will be a place of blessing for all who use them

We give thanks to the Lord for Harold and Goodson and their successful calendar distribution trip this past week. They travelled throughout the Central and Northern regions, visiting many faithful distributors and ensuring the gospel calendars reached communities far and wide.

We are grateful that almost the entire supply of 1,000,000 gospel calendars has now been distributed. However, demand exceeded supply, and sadly the materials available did not meet the full need.

Please join us in thanking God for the work accomplished, and pray for wisdom to know how best to deploy our resources moving forward so that these vital gospel materials can continue to reach those who eagerly seek them.

We give thanks to God that the Mitsubishi Canter engine swap has been successfully completed. The Canter is a vital part of our ministry, carrying building materials for the construction project as well as medium‑sized loads of literature. Having it back in service is a real blessing.

The new engine was not an exact replacement for the old one. Because of this, several modifications had to be made to ensure everything could fit and run correctly. As a result of these changes, the vehicle no longer has power‑steering capability. We are grateful that the installation went well, and we ask you to pray that all will continue to run smoothly as the team adjusts to these changes.

Thank you for remembering this practical side of the work. Your prayers and support keep essential resources moving so that the Gospel can reach many more people.

Give thanks with us for the safe arrival of the literature container shipped from N. Ireland in October. Although the container was evidently tampered with en route, and some contents were stolen, the majority of items, including around 3,000,000 Gospel Calendars and tracts, arrived intact.

We praise God that trans-shipment from the port of Nacala (Mozambique) and customs clearance in Malawi happened quickly.

Give thanks with us that an order for 5,000 Emmaus booklets has just been sent to our local printer in Malawi. This latest print run brings the total number of Emmaus booklets produced to around 17,000 since we relaunched the Emmaus work in mid-2025—a significant encouragement as demand continues to grow.

This order includes courses on Personal Evangelism, Marriage, and Growing as a Believer, along with a handbook for students who graduate to become Emmaus markers. These materials are intended to strengthen believers and equip them to help others grow in their faith. Most of the booklets will ultimately be used across Central and Northern Malawi through the work of Emmaus Road Trust.

We are especially thankful for the many hours of translation, revision, and careful editing that have gone into the Emmaus material. This often unseen labour has now resulted in a major milestone: we have 18 Emmaus courses available in Chichewa, providing a solid and growing foundation for Bible teaching and discipleship throughout Malawi.
