Terms of Acceptance of Gifts and Donations
1. General Acceptance
By making a donation or gift to Southern Africa Literature Trust (SALT), you acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions.
2. Taxation and Gift Aid
- SALT is registered with the UK tax authorities and participates in the Gift Aid scheme. If you are a UK taxpayer, you may be eligible to boost your donation through Gift Aid.
- SALT cannot provide tax receipts or confirmations for donors in any other tax jurisdiction. Donors outside the UK should seek independent tax advice if they require confirmation of charitable giving for tax purposes.
3. Refusal of Gifts
SALT reserves the right to decline or return any donation if:
- There is reason to believe that the donor is not of sound mental capacity or is making the donation under undue influence.
- Accepting the gift could create a conflict of interest or legal liability for the charity.
- There is reason to believe that the donation originates from fraudulent, illegal, or unethical sources.
- The donation is contingent upon unreasonable conditions that conflict with the mission, values, or operational capacity of the charity.
4. Designated Donations
- Donors may request that their gift be used for a specific cause or project. SALT will endeavour to honour such requests where possible.
- However, SALT reserves the right to allocate funds at the discretion of the Trustees in order to best serve the mission and objectives of the charity.
- Donors wishing to make designated gifts should ensure they are satisfied with this policy before completing their donation.
5. Non-Refundable Donations
All donations and gifts are final and non-refundable, except in the case of a processing error.
6. Confidentiality of Donor Information
- SALT respects donor privacy and will use personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- SALT will not publish or disclose donor details without consent, except where required to do so by law or regulatory authorities to fulfil its legal obligations.
- Donors may not publicly disclose details of their donation, including its amount and purpose, without SALT’s prior written approval.
By proceeding with your donation, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these terms.
